Speedmail International Limited, acquired by Deutsche Post 2004.

Speedmail International is one of the UK’s most prominent business to business mail operators offering a final mile delivery service to 22 central London postcodes as well as national and international mail distribution and fulfillment and mailroom management services.

One of the only independent companies to obtain a long-term Postcomm licence for final mile delivery, Speedmail was recently refered to in the Financial Times as one of the biggest competitors to the Royal Mail.

In 2004 Speedmail was acquired by Deutsche Post World Net the worlds leading logistics group.

Key activities

• Strategy development including reporting at board meetings and presentation of Speedmail’s strategy at national and international industry conferences. • Sales and marketing support including preparation of various sales propsoals and tender documents. Review of pricing strategy and service level agreements. • Systems analysis and documenting to ensure compliance with BSI ISO 9001:2000. • General accouting activities including development of management reporting pack, preparation of year-end accounts and taxation returns, supervision of sales ledger, purchase ledger and data input activities. HR support including co-ordination of employee vetting procedures, supervision of payroll, reviewing employee contracts and various disciplinary procedures.

Acquisition by Deutsche Post

• Preparation of initial information memorandum and identification of potential target buyers with BDO Stoy Hayward corporate finance department. • Preparation of detailed proposal to Deutsche Post mergers and acquisition including detailed 3 year forecasts, profitability calculations and volume analysis. • Key member of due diligence team. Working on a daily basis with Speedmail’s managing director, senior management and legal advisors. Specific responsibility for providing finance, taxation, strategy, systems and marketing. Heavily involved in negociations with Deutsche Post including agreeing earn-out plans and various service level agreements. • Responsible for post-acqusition integration including intergroup reporting, preparing quarterly board meetings and various ad-hoc projects.

Postal Services Commission – Licencing and regulation

• Prepration of long-term licence application including assessing current and future mail volumes and development of 3 year forecasts. • Quartertly statutory returns including segmental anaysis of mail volumes. Development of reporting systems and commissioning bespoke software packages. • Ad-hoc Postcomm reporting including documenting mail integrity procedures, security returns and commenting on industry proposals.

2001 - 2002

Regional Chief Accountant – Europe. Mr Ted? Limited

Mr Ted? is a leading-edge recruitment technology company. It was the first ASP (Application Service Provider) to market a multi-lingual Candidate Supply Chain Management platform allowing large, global companies to manage the entire recruitment process with complete transparency. The company was founded in November 1999 and received significant venture capital investment in September 2001.

• Acting as the interface and central co-ordinator between the head office accounts team and external accountants across Europe. • Preparation of group consolidation accounts together with analysis and commentary. • Monitoring monthly cash-flow forecasts to optimise treasury management. • Assess the financial viability of potential investment projects suggested by the board. • Ensuring compliance with audit, taxation and statutory regulations throughout Europe.
